What did you study exactly? What courses / specializations?
I got my bachelor at the University of applied sciences in Tilburg in construction management. After the pre-master I started with the Master Technology and Policy, later Innovation Sciences. My specialization was technology and development. For this, I did research in India for my master thesis.
How did you search for a job?
During my graduation I realized that I did not want to work for an NGO or development organization as my first job. So I started to look for jobs at companies. Since I had my bachelor in the construction sector, I also searched for jobs that combines my knowledge of the construction sector with my Innovation Sciences background.
Where are you working now? What type of company?
I am working at Synarchis, a small consultancy firm on public real estate.
What is your job title? What does this job imply / what are the responsibilities?
I am a consultant and mainly working for municipalities and universities. Advising them how to look at their public real estate in the future (for instance schools, swimming pools, sport accommodations, community centers etc).
How does this job connect to your study?
I am working in a political environment, involving policy decisions where the societal impacts of your plans are very important.
What are your future plans?
I like to obtain more advisory skills, how to bring your message and involve stakeholders in important decisions about their public services.
Do you have tips for students?
Use your network and that of Intermate to talk to people so you can find out what interests you. Not only in depth, but also the day-to-day work (for a company or a consultancy firm, working on project or not etc)
